Mummy to Reed Blank

In the following video I will be making a reed MUMMY into a reed BLANK with the bevel and three(3) wires.

There are many techniques one can use in beveling, as well as wire placement. This video is a general guide with basic information.

Here I am using Medir Cane, Rieger 0.06mm wire, and Nexus Woodwinds mandrel and pliers.

Wire placements as follows:

1st wire 2mm from collar

2nd wire 8mm from 1st wire

3rd wire 6mm from butt of reed

Reed Journal - Update #1

Reeds, Reeds, Reeds…

We never stop, they never change; we run in circles, trying to find the perfect reed.

Some people say keeping a reed journal is pointless, as all you are doing is keeping record and it has no influence on what you do. But, if you use the journal with a purpose, with intent to make things better, or to notice changes, then using a journal is a great journey to go on.

Make sure to mark profiler setting changes, soaking procedure changes, the length of time the cane has soaked between stages; anything that is able to be changed, should be marked down for reference. If we know what we changed, then we have more information for future adjustments.
